Our Rector Prof. Dr. Musa Yıldız Attended the “Eco-Climate Economy and Climate Change Summit”

“Eco-Climate Economy and Climate Change Summit”, the world's first economy and climate change fair, was held at ATO Congresium on March 30-31. The summit was attended by Our Rector Prof. Dr. Musa Yıldız, Vice Rectors Prof. Dr. Bekir Buluc, Prof. Dr. Ramazan Bayindir and Prof. Dr. Fazlı Polat, Advisor to the Rector Prof. Dr. Halil İbrahim Bülbül, Social Affairs Institution Coordinator Prof. Dr. Selami Candan, Education-Training and Foreign Relations Institution Coordinator Prof. Dr. İhsan Kalenderoğlu, heads of state, representatives of public institutions, more than twenty international institutions and organizations, deans, directors, academics from more than thirty universities, municipalities, organized industrial zones, technopolises, sector representatives and approximately 12 thousand guests.

Representing our university at the summit, our Rector Prof. Dr. Musa Yıldız and the accompanying delegation visited the stands of all participating institutions and organizations, including foremost the Gazi University stand, and exchanged views on eco-climate and climate change.

The "Gazi University Session" held in the Biotrend hall was attended by our Rector Prof. Dr. Musa Yıldız, GD Global Founding Director Gözde Dizdar, President of the Republic of North Macedonia Prof. Dr. Gjorge Ivanov, Colombian President Andres Pastana Arango, Nepalese Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal, Indonesian President Megawati Sukarnoputri and Canada Deputy Prime Minister Sheila Copps.

Giving the opening speech of the session, our Rector Prof. Dr. Musa Yıldız said, “The Eco-Climate Economy and Climate Change Summit, where awareness will be raised against climate change, problems will be discussed and solutions will be found, is being carried out as you know under the leadership of Ankara Chamber of Commerce in order to create a common mind to quickly and in the most correct way prepare for global regulations on the subjects of "Climate Change" and "Green Transformation", and to combat climate change and minimize its impact on the economy.

Our Rector Prof. Dr. Musa Yıldız continued as follows: “Our 96-year-old Gazi University, named after Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the Founder of our Republic, is one of Turkey's leading and universities with its experienced, qualified and awareness-raising academic staff. Since 2017, our university, which maintains the status of a Research University, offers undergraduate and graduate courses on environmental awareness, environmental sustainability and energy efficiency, and carries out many interdisciplinary national and international projects in the field of climate change. In the Greenmetric 2021 ranking, which focuses on the themes of "green campus" and "sustainability", Gazi University has moved up 40 places compared to 2020. We are happy to take part in the Eco Climate Summit, which in line with the objectives of raising environmental awareness is one of the strong starting points for the steps to be taken on the issues of "Climate Change" and "Green Transformation” and which is also included in the updated strategic plan of our university for 2019-2023.”

Stating that climate change is a global problem that has a negative impact on the lives of all living things, our Rector Prof. Dr. Musa Yıldız said that the world is getting warmer day by day. He indicated that “Climate change; Expresses the many different effects of global warming on the climate system of the earth. These effects include rising sea levels, melting glaciers, changing rain patterns, increasing numbers of extreme weather conditions, changing season lengths and changing crop yields."

Stating that afforestation works are carried out by calculating the carbon footprint Our Rector Prof. Dr. Musa Yıldız expressed the following: “Reducing electricity and water consumption and preventing all kinds of waste are seen as effective actions in reducing the carbon footprint.   For the development of Islamic Civilization Our Prophet gave great importance to issues such as clean, healthy and orderly urbanization etc. and expressed in detail the effects of the environment on people. At this point, he not only raised awareness by appealing to people's minds, but also trained them by trying to direct people's environmental movements with his orders, advice and prohibitions. By showing the world how civilization should be in a short period of 23 years, he has clearly demonstrated with the system he developed that the environment has an indispensable place in human life.

Our Rector Prof. Dr. Musa Yıldız finished his speech as follows: “remembering once again that this world is not inherited from our ancestors, and that we are borrowing it from future generations, we as Gazi University give full support with the hope of preserving nature and leaving a liveable environment to future generations. As I end our speech here, I would like to thank everyone who contributed to the realization of this program and offer my respects to everyone.”

After the opening speech, the Gazi University session moderated by GD Global Founding Director Gözde Dizdar began. The session ended after the question and answer section.
