Great Success from Our Students in TÜBİTAK 2242 University Students Research Project Competition

The 2242 University Students Research Project Competition held by TUBITAK Directorate of Science Fellowships and Grant Programs, organized on  25th-26th August of 2020. Students of the Faculty of Science, Gazi Faculty of Education and Faculty of Engineering filled us with pride with their achievements at the Ankara Regional Exhibition.

The project of Kübra Söğütdelen, 4th year student from the Department of Biology Education, which participated in the competition under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Çiğdem Alev, Gazi Faculty of Education Department of Biology Education, on "Datamatrix Supported Jigsaw Teaching Material Developed for Cell Cycle" won the first prize in the education category.

The project of Ayşenur Zeynep Kaya and Bilge Başak Fidan, 4th year students of the Department of Biology Education, who participated in the competition under consultancy of Prof.Dr.Ali Gül, Faculty of Biology Education, “3D Technology for Secondary School Students and Comparative Material Set of Datamatrix Supported Vertabrate Animal Hearts” was also awarded first prize in the field of education. Both projects will represent our university in the finals of Turkey, which will be held between 9th-10th September of 2020.

The project on "Computer Aided FlipBook Material Developed for 'Interfase and Mitosis' in Somatic Cells" prepared by Güler Koç, a 4th-year student of the Department of Biology Education, under the consultancy of Prof. Dr. Çiğdem Alev, won the third prize in the field of education.

The Department of Computer Engineering, at the Faculty of Engineering, which carries out projects supported by industry on real problems, has been a success in this competition this year as it has been for the last 5 years. Kaan Şahin, a final year student in the Department of Computer Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering, won the first prize in energy and environment for his project titled "Big Data Technology Use in The Fight against Forest Fires". In the project aimed at project consultancy by Prof. Dr. Şeref Sağıroğlu, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, and İlhami Aydın, Deputy Head of OGM Forest Fires Department,  prediction models for the prevention of forest fires were proposed for the first time in our country from the point of view of big data.

Senior students from the Department of Computer Engineering, Büşra Doğan, Özgecan Muyanlı, Rümeysa Çakırgöz's project titled "Big Data and Artificial Intelligence Based Analysis of Route Similarity in Fleet Vehicles" received second prize in the field of information and communication technologies. In the project carried out by Prof. Dr. Şeref Sağıroğlu and Faculty Member Dr.  Ramazan Terzi, one of the experts of the Department of Artificial Intelligence and Big Data of the Presidential Office of Digital Transformation, route similarity was determined from GPS data with an analysis based on big data and artificial intelligence for the first time in our country and abroad.

Batuhan Yetim is a 3rd year student of Department of Chemistry at the Faculty of Science, participated in the competition under the counseling of Associate Professor Dr. Hamdi Özkan, Faculty of Science, and Department of Chemistry. Batuhan Yetim received the second prize in the Central Anatolia Region with his Project titled “Synthesis of Tetrazol Derivative, Which Inhibits the Re-Intake of Neurtransmitter Properties Serotonin, Dopamine and Norepinephrine Hormones.” This Project was also qualified for the finals of Turkey, which will be held on 9th – 10th of September.
